DAY  5

DOES GOD ANSWER PRAYER?

SELECTED READING: Matthew 7:7–8 (NKJV)

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

Do you ever feel that when you pray, as a believer, that God isn’t there? He doesn’t hear you? Maybe you even feel like you need a megaphone! But seriously, what do you do when you feel like God doesn’t hear your cry?

The first thing is God always hears the prayers of His children. He always answers. Sometimes, the answer is yes. Sometimes the answer is no. And other times the answer is yes but not right now. Just keep praying while being patient for that thing to come to pass. It goes along with Matthew 7:7–8—Ask, Seek, Knock.

When God doesn’t answer your prayer the way you want Him to, when you want Him to, or maybe you aren’t praying for the right thing or outcome. Maybe God is teaching you something important through this.

James 1:2–3, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” (NKJV)

How is this testing your faith? Glad you asked: you are believing God for an answer and not only believing but putting that belief into action by praying on faith. Adrian Rogers said, “Faith is belief with legs on it.”

The second part is, God hears your prayers and He allows you to keep praying to lean into Him and get to know Him in a more intimate way. My birth mom does not know Christ as Lord of her life. Sometimes just sheer circumstances I think she will never be saved. Yet, God keeps her alive and coherent, so I can share Jesus with her. I pray for her daily to be saved. I have the belief that God will save her, He just hasn’t yet. But through this time of leaning into God, He leans back into me and gives me peace that surpasses all human understanding. It will be so much sweeter when Kathy surrenders her life to Christ. My encouragement to you is to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking because God hears your cry and He is answering you.

Who or what have you given up praying for because you thought the answer was no when it could be not yet? Dig deep and find out what that person or circumstance is, then ignite that fire of prayer again. Let’s see what God can do!
