SCRIPTURE IS A POWERFUL WEAPON
SELECTED READING: Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love on another.”
Have you ever thought about all the “hype” we see in America on the topic of guns and concealed carry? First, I want to say that this is not a “political devotion” at all. But this movement in our country has me thinking. For many gun owners they are simply following the trend. Truth be told, I bet many gun owners would not know how to use them if ever a situation of self-defense arose. You know why? Because many of them do not have the confidence they need to handle a weapon. They are not familiar enough with it and they have not trained or spent enough time shooting it. Many Americans rely on a false sense of security from a weapon in their home or in their car. However, they simply don’t handle it enough to rely on it when needed.
Did you know that the Bible is a weapon? However, many Christians aren’t disciplined in handling it often. One of the best lines of defense in facing life is having a discipline of Scripture memorization. This is the greatest and safest form of “concealed carry.” When Scripture enters your head and you make it a point to memorize it, it enters your heart. Once it’s in your heart you can pull it out with confidence no matter what you’re facing.
I want to challenge you to start a discipline of Scripture memorization and experience the power of God’s Word. Below is a passage to start with this week.
Psalm 119:11, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
I also want to encourage you to put it on your screen saver of your phone so that every time you look at your phone you will read it. You can also write it on Post-It notes and place on things like your dashboard, your computer, or your mirror. It’s important to see it and meditate on it throughout the week. Next week, add to it by starting with a new verse.
